The cryptocurrency sphere has been rocked by another hack, targeting the on-chain trading platform Thunder Terminal. The hackers managed to steal 86.5 Ethereum (ETH), valued at $192,000, from the platform. Chain analyst ZachXBT reported the incident, revealing that the stolen ETH was transferred to Railgun, a community project in decentralized finance (DeFi) focused on peer-to-peer privacy.
Following the hack, Thunder Terminal assured that the funds were safe and that reimbursement for the stolen funds would be made shortly. They later clarified that no private keys were at risk, and only 114 out of over 14,000 wallet addresses were affected by the hack, which was halted in less than nine minutes.
Despite the platform’s reassurances, ZachXBT pointed out a note left by the hacker, which contradicted the official statements, claiming that all information provided by Thunder Terminal was false and threatening to release user data unless paid 50 ETH.
In a separate incident report, Thunder Terminal disclosed that the hack was executed through leaked session tokens, allowing the attackers to withdraw funds directly. The platform confirmed the loss of approximately 86.5 ETH and an additional 439 Solana (SOL) tokens, worth $47,800.
In their latest statement, Thunder Terminal promised full reimbursement of the lost funds to the affected users, offering them a zero-fee transaction and a $100,000 credit each as compensation for the incident.
