Bitcoin infrastructure company Breez has introduced a significant update to its developer toolkit, allowing users to send USDC and USDT stablecoins from their Bitcoin balances without the need to previously hold or convert them. This update streamlines the process across more than 30 different blockchain networks and simplifies stablecoin transactions.
How Does This System Operate?
The system utilizes the Lightning Network coupled with an automatic conversion process. When a transaction is initiated, Bitcoin is promptly converted to stablecoins – either USDC or USDT – and sent to the specified blockchain chosen by the recipient. This seamless mechanism eliminates the necessity for users or recipients to handle stablecoins directly on the Lightning Network.
On entering a recipient’s wallet address, the software development kit (SDK) picks the proper network, figures out the best conversion path, and presents transaction details, such as fees, before the user finalizes the payment. Flashnet and Boltz facilitate the conversion and subsequent stablecoin transfer to the desired network.
Roy Sheinfeld clarified that there is no need to issue USDT or USDC directly on the Lightning Network. Thanks to interoperability, users can make payments from their Bitcoin balance, while recipients get stablecoins on any supported network.
Breez has assured customers that Bitcoin remains under their control until the transaction is executed. There is no obligation for the recipient to manage a separate stablecoin balance since the transfers are hassle-free and directly catered to the chosen network. This new feature is currently limited to outgoing payments, with plans to incorporate incoming stablecoin transfers in the future.
Developers Get a Boost
Targeting developers, Breez aims to simplify the integration of stablecoin payments in their applications. By avoiding the cumbersome task of linking to each blockchain network, the company offers a streamlined method to manage both Bitcoin and stablecoin transactions under one balance.
Breez is already venerated for its cutting-edge Bitcoin and Lightning payment solutions, offering an SDK that simplifies the embedding of Lightning capabilities into various applications.
Why Is the Lightning Network Important?
The introduction of this feature coincides with a swell in efforts by startups to explore broader financial uses for Bitcoin and the Lightning Network. This network is proving its scalability, servicing transactions beyond mere retail payments, with notable financial applications demonstrated.
Concrete developments include:
- $1 million Bitcoin transaction via Lightning to Kraken underscoring high-speed transfers.
- Introduction of a credit line by Voltage supporting US dollar settlements.
- Funding of $5.2 million secured by Ark Labs to enhance stablecoin operations on Bitcoin.
- Projections that Lightning Network transactions could exceed $1 billion monthly by 2025.
As the Lightning Network gains traction, it increasingly fortifies Bitcoin’s position in facilitating instantaneous, low-cost global payments. Breez’s new feature marks another leap forward in this evolving financial landscape, enabling seamless transactions with remarkable speed and efficiency.
