Satsuma Technology shareholders have decisively voted to dissolve the company and liquidate its Bitcoin assets, effectively ending its brief chapter as a publicly traded Bitcoin entity on the London Stock Exchange. This pivotal decision involves liquidating 668 BTC, valued at approximately $43.5 million, and delisting from the stock exchange. Despite a divided board, the overwhelming shareholder consensus has dictated the company’s winding down.

Why Did Shareholders Approve Liquidation?

The decision to liquidate Satsuma’s assets was anchored by the discrepancy between the company’s stock value and its digital holdings. Despite a minority of directors believing in its potential as a viable Bitcoin investment vehicle, the majority view deemed direct BTC ownership more advantageous than holding company shares.

What Sparked Satsuma’s Journey into Bitcoin?

Satsuma began as TAO Alpha, a small AI firm, before shifting focus under the leadership of Mark Moss, a notable Bitcoin proponent, and influencer. The transformation was backed by significant investment from major players like ParaFi Capital and Pantera Capital, who funded the endeavor with both cash and Bitcoin, demonstrating early optimism in the strategy of a Bitcoin treasury.

Satsuma’s share price experienced a significant rise following record Bitcoin values in 2025; however, the subsequent market decline hit hard. Reluctantly, Satsuma sold 579 BTC to repay noteholders in December 2025, marking the start of its financial decline.

  • Initial capital raised through convertible notes was £163.6 million.
  • Despite high Bitcoin valuations, Satsuma’s stock plummeted after its peak in June 2025.
  • December 2025 saw forced Bitcoin sales to meet financial obligations.
  • The liquidation process sees a projected cash return of £26.8–£30 million after costs.

Earlier in 2026, as market conditions worsened, Satsuma experienced leadership departures, including both the CEO and CFO stepping down. Influential shareholders such as Pantera Capital advocated for an organizational shut down, underscoring the misalignment between BTC holdings and the company’s market valuation. A formal vote by shareholders seeking greater value resolution led the organisation to its end game.

Satsuma will return cash to shareholders using a specialized legal mechanism, though ordinary shareholders should brace for limited recoveries. The approval process is now contingent upon forthcoming high court hearings, with the delisting expected by mid-September 2026. Remaining a significant entity, albeit inactive, Satsuma still ranks below The Smarter Web Company, which holds a notable 2,878 BTC, leaving a notable mark in the U.K.’s digital asset landscape.
