Bitcoin enthusiasts have been monitoring the cryptocurrency’s recent fluctuation around the $80,000 mark, with Alice Liu, CoinMarketCap’s Head of Research, indicating it’s improbable for Bitcoin to revisit the low points seen earlier this year. Despite dipping to approximately $59,000 in June, Liu suggests this level may have signified a significant bottom, reducing the chances of retesting such depths.

Could Bitcoin Have Found Its Bottom?

Bitcoin managed to reach $81,600 at the start of September, marking a notable 28% recovery since mid-August. This upward trend also nudged the CoinMarketCap Crypto Fear and Greed Index back into the Greed zone. Nonetheless, Liu believes the low point observed in June, around $59,000, might have established a solid floor.

However, the crypto sphere’s buzz doesn’t solely hinge on Bitcoin. Liu noted a surge in activity within the realm of tokenized real-world assets (RWAs) and perpetual contracts. Particularly, Hyperliquid revealed discrepancies in network activity and price performance amid these developments.

Is Competition Heating Up in RWA Perpetual Contracts?

Indeed, Liu’s analysis over the past two months uncovered growing interest in RWA perpetual contracts based on tokenized stocks, ETFs, and indexes. While initially spearheaded by Hyperliquid, the introduction of centralized exchanges could redistribute market share. CoinMarketCap remains a go-to platform for tracking crypto prices and market trends.

  • Binance now commands roughly 50% of the total market share in RWA perpetual contracts.
  • Hyperliquid maintains its lead within the decentralized exchange (DEX) sphere.

Liu highlighted Hyperliquid’s impressive 47.50% rise over the last month, fueled by significant buybacks. The hype token recently peaked at $86, backed by over $400 million spent by the project on token repurchases. Limited token circulation also supports a controlled release approach.

AI Tokens Demand Cautious Consideration?

While Liu remains favorable toward Hyperliquid, she’s more cautious with AI-themed crypto assets. Emerging trends in late 2023 have seen AI tokens struggle against real tech stocks and AI companies. They often capitalize on themes rather than tangible infrastructure or use cases.

Liu cautions that projects lacking utility might face intensified devaluation, although those with solid backgrounds could find niches, albeit under pricing pressures. Her optimism about Bitcoin persists over the long term, yet Liu approaches the $1 million estimate by 2030 conservatively.
