The cryptocurrency market embarked on October with strength, following a robust third quarter. Despite exhibiting volatility in the final weeks of September, Bitcoin and Ethereum ended the month with approximately seven percent gains. Meanwhile, Solana‘s recovery from its June lows drew attention, as Bitcoin’s dominance falling below 60% indicated increased participation among major altcoins.

Bitcoin Faces ETF Demand and Rate Pressure

By the end of September, Bitcoin traded between $83,000 and $84,000. Institutional demand supported the asset, which briefly surpassed $87,000 within the month. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs reported an influx of $2.4 billion during the week ending September 25—the strongest weekly flow since October 2025. However, rising bond yields and profit-taking limited a decisive upward movement in the market. Since August 19, Bitcoin ETF products have garnered a total of $4.9 billion in inflows. JPMorgan analysts consider roughly $85,000 as a key reference level in terms of average production cost for Bitcoin.

JPMorgan, one of the largest banks in the U.S., publishes widely-followed global market research. The production cost estimate cited by analysts can vary based on factors such as network difficulty, electricity prices, and hardware efficiency.

Fidelity Investments’ global macro director Jurrien Timmer projects that Bitcoin could reach $300,000 by 2029, based on his long-term model.

There is no consensus on the technical outlook. Benjamin Cowen emphasizes that investors should focus more on Bitcoin’s current chart structure rather than the traditional four-year cycle patterns. Cowen notes that weekly closures could be pivotal in understanding the market’s next phase.

All Eyes on Ethereum’s October 6 Testnet

Following a strong upward trend in August, Ethereum saw a roughly seven percent increase in September, closing the month between $2,650 and $2,700. Institutional activity was noteworthy, with Arkham Intelligence reporting that BlackRock’s spot Ethereum ETFs purchased over $1.5 billion in ETH over a 20-day period.

The next major topic for Ethereum will be the Glamsterdam update’s testing phase, with the first public testnet planned to commence on October 6.

Glossary: A testnet is an environment where a blockchain update is tested before being implemented on the live network. Developers aim to identify bugs and compatibility issues during this phase.

According to Ali Martinez, a similar breakout from a past formation led to a 31% surge over three days, suggesting that a move above $2,474 could strengthen a $3,000 scenario.

XRP Examines Regulatory Developments Amid Institutional Interest

XRP rose to $1.66 on September 23 before retreating to a range of $1.48 to $1.55 by the end of the month. For the week ending September 26, it recorded a 10.4% increase, and U.S. spot XRP ETFs experienced continuous inflows for 11 weeks as of September 25, totaling $1.79 billion. However, XRP’s seasonal trends appear less consistent than Bitcoin’s. Santiment data revealed the ratio of positive to negative commentary fell to 0.67. In U.S. regulatory news, the Senate’s procedural halt on the CLARITY Act on September 16 signaled a near-term weakening for the broader crypto market.

On the corporate front, Evernorth completed a shareholder vote and submitted additional documents to the SEC as part of its transformation into a publicly traded XRP treasury company. The firm plans to hold up to 473 million XRP post-transaction.
