In a notable development, Ripple‘s treasury has minted 30 million RLUSD, a stablecoin pegged to the U.S. dollar, continuing the trend of high-volume issuance observed since September. According to CoinGecko, RLUSD’s market capitalization stood at approximately $2.53 billion as of October 7.
Recent Transactions Highlight Issuance Pace
The recent minting is not an isolated occurrence; on September 21, Ripple first created 20 million RLUSD, followed by an additional 20.5 million tokens later that day, culminating in a total issuance of 40.5 million RLUSD. When combined with activities on September 22, Ripple issued a total of 59.5 million RLUSD over two days, indicating a more intensive approach to managing RLUSD supply.
Ripple, committed to a dynamic management of RLUSD, combines the issuance and burning of tokens, ensuring that minting alone does not signify a lasting increase in circulating supply.
Burning Operations Curtail Circulating Supply
Token activity extended beyond new issuance; on September 22, Ripple conducted two separate burn transactions of 14.9 million and 14.95 million RLUSD, effectively removing 29.85 million tokens from circulation. This approach underscores that not every minted token translates into a permanent supply increase, as regular issuance and burning characterize Ripple’s management of RLUSD.
Understanding Ripple’s Issuance Model
Ripple’s documentation reveals that institutional clients deposit fiat currency to receive RLUSD, which are subsequently minted. When clients return these tokens, they are burned in exchange for a fiat refund. Known for developing payment infrastructures and digital asset solutions, Ripple is a U.S.-based technology entity.
Similar large-scale transactions marked early September as well. On September 11, a single transaction saw 10 million RLUSD minted, while total issuance on the XRP Ledger topped approximately 21.9 million tokens. On September 1, around 143.1 million RLUSD was produced on the XRP Ledger.
Institutional customers initiate RLUSD creation through fiat deposits, with burn processes enacted upon redemptions.
The recent issuance of 30 million RLUSD highlights Ripple’s ongoing large-scale treasury operations in managing its stablecoin flow. Analysts must therefore assess daily minting data alongside concurrent burning activity for a comprehensive understanding of RLUSD’s circulating dynamics.
