Greece is set to introduce a new tax regulation targeting gains from cryptocurrency transactions, according to a draft proposal open for public comment. The proposed legislation outlines a 10% capital gains tax on earnings from digital assets, with expectations for it to be submitted to parliament by November.
Exemption for Gains up to 500 Euros
The draft proposal includes an exemption for annual crypto gains up to 500 euros, equivalent to approximately 560 dollars. Beyond this threshold, a 10% tax would apply. Analysts have pointed out the difficulty of gauging the exact size of Greece’s cryptocurrency market, primarily due to the significant number of investors utilizing international platforms. Greek authorities have yet to project the revenue expected from this tax.
Yıllık 500 euroya kadar kripto kazancının vergiden muaf tutulması, küçük ölçekli yatırımcılar için sınırlı bir koruma alanı oluşturuyor.
Lower than European Counterparts
The proposed 10% rate is notably lower than that of several European Union countries. In nations like Germany, France, and Italy, capital gains taxes on cryptocurrencies either exceed 25% or are planned to do so. This taxation approach represents a shift towards treating digital assets more in line with traditional financial instruments, such as stocks, reflecting the growing mainstream presence of cryptocurrencies in investment portfolios.
Focus on Market Monitoring and Regulation
As the impact of taxation and regulation on the markets is closely monitored, it becomes crucial for investors to follow not only price movements but also legislative changes swiftly. In a market where a single Federal Reserve decision or an altcoin’s sudden listing can drastically alter dynamics, the use of consolidated tools like CryptoAppsy is on the rise among savvy traders. These platforms allow them to track real-time graphs, intelligent price alerts, coin-specific news, and key macroeconomic data without the hassle of account creation.
Yunanistan’ın planladığı %10’luk vergi oranı, Avrupa’daki birçok örneğe kıyasla daha sınırlı bir yük anlamına geliyor.
Should the proposal become law, Greece will join the ranks of European countries that establish a clear framework for taxing crypto gains. The final version of the regulation will be determined following parliamentary discussions.
