Spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) ended the week of October 9 with a notable net outflow of $681.10 million. This pullback reverses a three-week streak of net inflows, highlighting a shift in market sentiment.
Institutional Demand Falters
The latest data underscores a slowdown in demand from institutional investors. Following Bitcoin’s recent price corrections, a heightened sense of caution seems to have pervaded investor strategies, as reflected in the ETF statistics. Over the preceding two weeks, these funds enjoyed robust inflows totaling approximately $2.4 billion.
Bitcoin ETFs experienced net outflows totaling $681.10 million in the week ending October 9, following two weeks of approximately $2.4 billion in inflows.
Spot Bitcoin ETFs provide direct exposure to Bitcoin prices while operating within traditional exchange infrastructure. They serve as a useful tool for institutional investors seeking market exposure without the necessity of holding the digital asset directly.
Fidelity Records Largest Outflow
Fidelity’s fund recorded the most significant outflow of the week, totaling $380.36 million. As a major player in global asset management, Fidelity remains a key issuer in the spot Bitcoin ETF market. Following Fidelity, the ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF saw outflows amounting to $207.21 million, while BlackRock experienced a modest positive divergence, with net inflows of $1.02 million.
This trend points to a change in investor sentiment following the recent price dip. Predominantly marked by withdrawals over the week, the data hints at diminished risk appetite within institutional circles.
Despite BlackRock recording limited net inflows, Fidelity faced the largest cash outflow of the week.
Though BlackRock has long been a dominant force in the Bitcoin ETF market, this week’s flow data puts Fidelity in the spotlight. The overall weekly figures suggest a market-wide cautious approach is increasingly impacting several funds.
