Karahan’s Academic and Professional Background
Born in 1982, Fatih Karahan is a Boğaziçi University alumnus with a strong foundation in Mathematics and Industrial Engineering. He further honed his expertise at the University of Pennsylvania, where he completed both his master’s and doctoral studies by 2012.
From the Federal Reserve to Amazon
Karahan’s professional journey in the United States includes a significant tenure as an economist at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York. Here, he was instrumental as Head of Labor and Product Market Studies and advised on monetary policy. Before his return to Turkey, he served as a senior economist and eventually as Chief Economist at Amazon.
Karahan’s previous role as Deputy Governor of TCMB began on July 28, and it was a precursor to his current promotion. Having recently relocated back to Turkey with his family, he assumes the governorship during a pivotal period for the nation’s economy.
