Cryptocurrency analysts from Bitfinex highlight a noticeable shift in investor attention toward meme coins and AI-related projects. This shift is also evident in the Total3 Index’s value, which tracks cryptocurrencies’ performance, exempting Bitcoin and Ethereum. Recently, the index’s market cap broke past the $700 billion mark, demonstrating a clear rebound from the bear market troughs and signifying robust investor engagement with altcoins.
The renaissance of altcoins is largely driven by AI-related initiatives and coins rooted in internet culture and pet themes. Notably, indices tracking meme coins and AI projects on Coingecko have shown impressive growth over the past week. Cat-themed cryptocurrencies, in particular, have seen a remarkable 64% increase in market value, collectively exceeding a $750 million cap.

The surging market value has coincided with a spike in activity on the Ethereum network, leading to transaction fees reaching highs not observed in the past two years. With over $190 million in fees collected recently, Ethereum’s network fee income is on course to surpass the $10 billion mark on an annual basis.
Simultaneously, Bitcoin’s ascent to a new peak raises concerns about potential liquidation events for both long and short position holders. Bitfinex cautions that Bitcoin traders could encounter a market rife with leverage and volatility, which was illustrated when Bitcoin’s price rapidly fluctuated, resulting in significant liquidations earlier in the month.
