The prominent blockchain cybersecurity company CertiK’s official account fell victim to a hacking incident, which has stirred the cryptocurrency community. The hackers took control of the account and immediately engaged in a phishing scam.
A single post was made from the account to gain access to users’ wallet addresses and steal assets. Experts quickly noticed the breach and warned the community not to click any links from the compromised account.
Phishing scams typically involve cybercriminals impersonating legitimate institutions, banks, or service providers through fake websites, emails, or social media to steal personal and financial information.
The phishing attackers often send emails or messages that appear to be from a trusted source, asking victims to share their personal or financial details. They use fake websites to trick victims into believing they are genuine, capturing usernames, passwords, credit card information, or other sensitive data.
Shortly after the hack, CertiK officials regained control of the account and promptly removed the phishing post. No official statement has been made by the cybersecurity firm regarding the attack on their account.
