ICE has entered into a preliminary pact with Securitize to create a new digital trading platform for the NYSE. Securitize, functioning as the project’s design partner, will concentrate on transforming the roles of transfer agents to allow seamless functionality within a blockchain context. Supported by industry giants like BlackRock and Ark Invest, Securitize is a registered transfer agent with the U.S. SEC, positioning itself to revolutionize financial processes.
Anticipations are high for Securitize to become one of the pioneering entities to provide tokenized stocks and exchange-traded funds on this novel platform. However, deployment of these digital assets hinges on obtaining the essential regulatory sanctions.
Are Traditional Exchanges Embracing Blockchain?
Yes, ICE’s plan includes an operational digital platform where Securitize will likely play a crucial role in trading digital securities. This role fortifies their influence in both the issuance and trading of tokenized securities, possibly transforming the traditional-digital market convergence.
Traditional exchanges, especially well-established names like the NYSE and Nasdaq, increasingly value security tokenization. These institutions aspire to blend blockchain with equity markets, offering innovations such as round-the-clock trading and swift settlement, which are features already prevalent in the crypto sphere.
ICE recently invested in cryptocurrency exchange OKX, advocating for the development of tokenized assets on its platform. Concurrently, Nasdaq has secured a green light for tokenized stock trading and has joined forces with Kraken to distribute these tokens globally, further cementing tokenization’s presence in established financial systems.
“As we explore how tokenization can enhance capital markets, it is crucial that new infrastructure is built to uphold the trust, transparency, and investor protection principles that markets demand,” stated New York Stock Exchange Group President Lynn Martin.
Moreover, Securitize is contemplating a public offering in collaboration with Cantor Equitize Partners. This move is expected to positively influence Securitize’s financial stature, underscoring the growing cooperation between legacy and digital financial entities.
