Aviva Investors has made a groundbreaking move by launching its first tokenized fund share class, partnering with Ripple to bring the USD Liquidity Fund onto the XRP Ledger. This innovative product, greenlit by the Central Bank of Ireland, is accessible to qualified investors using digital wallets, marking a significant moment in the evolution of financial investment tools.
How Is the Fund Structured?
The tokenized share class reimagines a conventional fund introduced in 2020, now leveraging blockchain technology while preserving its original investment aims, risk levels, liquidity parameters, and regulatory safeguards. Aviva, a London-based asset management leader in equities and fixed income, aims for daily liquidity and low-risk returns through short-term, high-grade US dollar debt.
BNY Mellon holds the underlying assets, while Komainu, a licensed digital asset custodian, secures the tokenized units for eligible digital wallet investors. Aided by infrastructure from Licuido, the Central Bank of Ireland’s endorsement of this product marks a pivotal achievement for regulated tokenized finance in Europe.
Why Partner with Ripple?
The February alliance between Aviva and Ripple set the foundation for transitioning traditional investments onto the XRP Ledger (XRPL). This venture is Ripple’s first alliance with a European investment manager, reflecting rare alignment in blockchain-based finance. Their collaboration will extend through at least 2026, with plans for more tokenized offerings.
Ripple highlighted that joining forces with Aviva showcases the feasibility of regulated investment products utilizing blockchain technology effectively.
Operating since 2012, XRPL has facilitated over four billion transactions and supports numerous wallets and network validators, demonstrating its robust framework.
Mark Versey, Aviva’s CEO, mentioned the pivotal role of Ripple, indicating future exploration into expanded tokenized fund structures.
Recent insights from RWA.xyz reveal robust statistics: $313.30 million in assets distributed via XRPL, part of $4.06 billion total on the network. An increase in real-world asset owners and the growth of stablecoin assets further underscore XRPL’s expansive reach.
- Total XRPL assets reached $4.06 billion by July 30.
- Total RWA distribution noted at $313.30 million.
- RWA ownership saw a 17.42% growth rate over the last month.
- Stablecoins on XRPL, worth $952.25 million, represent substantial investment.
- 60,160 investors currently hold these stablecoins.
Aviva’s strategic move delivers a regulated tokenized liquidity instrument to the XRP Ledger ecosystem. Ripple’s involvement marks a notable shift in asset tokenization, expanding into European markets, while Aviva pursues advancements in digital investment products focusing on secure, short-term US dollar debt assets.
