Republican candidate Vivek Ramaswamy, who had a plan for the crypto space and received support from the industry, announced the suspension of his campaign on January 16, following the Iowa election results.
Ramaswamy made a statement on social media, expressing that the people have spoken clearly about their preferred candidate and that he would suspend his campaign to support Donald J. Trump, committing to do everything in his power to ensure Trump’s victory in the upcoming election. He expressed pride in his team, the movement, and the country.
In the Iowa election, former President Donald Trump emerged as the winner, followed by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley. Ramaswamy had garnered attention last year by receiving support from crypto advocates, including Messari CEO Ryan Selkis.
The crypto sector had been a topic of discussion among Republican candidates last year. Ramaswamy had stated that his plan would partly prevent the regulation of crypto wallets and allow for innovation without regulatory agency access. He also criticized SEC Chairman Gary Gensler during a debate last month for his stance on many cryptocurrencies being securities and needing to comply with securities laws.
Trump has not publicly announced his choice for vice president if he wins the nomination. He has taken notable steps in the NFT space, launching a collection of 45,000 NFTs in December 2022 and another collection offering fans unique opportunities, such as dinner with the former president or a piece of the suit he wore when detained by Georgia police in August.
