Digital asset firm GSR has strategically increased its Solana holding to 43.6% within its Core3 model portfolio, significantly overtaking both Bitcoin and Ethereum. This move ranks Solana as GSR’s largest single asset allocation, a noteworthy pivot from its previous positions.
Why the Shift?
GSR’s decision to alter the asset distribution follows the application of proprietary relative alpha signals that pointed to strong short-term momentum in Solana’s favor. As a result, Bitcoin’s weighting was reduced to a record low of 16.9%, while Ethereum’s allocation fell to 39.5% from 44.1% in a previous assessment.
Performance Highlights
Solana demonstrated impressive one-week gains of 2.98%, contrasting with Bitcoin’s 1.02% decline and Ethereum’s 0.20% decrease. However, over a 30-day span, Ethereum led with a 7.88% return, overshadowing Solana’s 2.44% gain.
For the week, the Core3 model saw a growth of 0.85%, and a 5.30% monthly return, surpassing the equal-weighted benchmark returns of 0.59% and 4.68%, respectively.
- The Core3 model’s annual performance remains down at 35.58% for the year.
- Over the past 12 months, Core3 has faced a steep 70.28% decline, surpassing the equal-weighted portfolio’s 63.44% drop.
Volatility readings over the past month showed Bitcoin at 26.82%, Ether at 39.75%, and Solana at 35.26%. Trading volumes for Solana decreased during the observed periods, despite the portfolio weight increase.
US Market Expansion for Solana
The adjustments occur as new Solana-focused investment opportunities emerge in the US. Morgan Stanley launched the Solana Trust on NYSE Arca with a 0.14% expense ratio, aiming to engage investors with price exposure and potential staking rewards. Meanwhile, 21Shares has waived the sponsor fee for its TSOL product to attract more trading interest.
Analyst Michaël van de Poppe emphasized the need for Solana to sustain the $73.50–$74 support zone, projecting a target of $120 if the trend persists. GSR remains a significant player in the digital asset space, continually adapting its Core3 portfolio to reflect market insights and performance metrics.
