The Cardano blockchain network processed an unprecedented 1,780,896 transactions over the five-day Epoch 660 period, from October 6 to October 11, setting a new high for network activity. This transaction volume surpassed the previous peak of 1.56 million recorded in November 2021, according to data from Cexplorer. Cardano, known for its proof-of-stake infrastructure and native token ADA, has demonstrated consistent activity growth.
Surge Driven by Decentralized Governance Initiatives
The notable spike in network activity was largely fueled by actual use rather than short-term price movements. The primary catalyst behind this surge was the heightened community engagement during the decentralized governance process, particularly throughout the Voltaire era.
The culmination of Epoch 660 coincided with a series of significant on-chain votes led by Delegated Representatives (DReps). Participants were actively engaging their wallets to vote on proposals, such as reducing the minPoolCost, which is one of the network’s key economic parameters. Despite these efforts, the initiatives fell short of reaching the necessary quorum. However, the voting period served as a comprehensive stress test for Cardano’s infrastructure due to the intense participation.
“Cardano network processed 1,780,896 transactions during the five-day Epoch 660 period, reaching its highest level since November 2021.”
Network Demonstrates Robust Performance Under Load
The network continued to operate smoothly without any interruptions during this period of high activity. Average block density climbed to 83.83 transactions per block, with the total output volume for the five days recorded at 46.71 billion ADA. Transaction fees remained relatively stable, reflecting the network’s durability under load.
During this time, the system generated 337,720 ADA in transaction fees, with the average cost per transaction standing at 0.19 ADA, equating to roughly $0.05. This consistency highlights Cardano’s capability to handle large volumes efficiently.
Contrasting Market Reaction Amid Strong Network Data
Despite the robust network metrics, the market response did not align with the rising activity. ADA’s price declined by 3.58% to $0.2429 during the transaction record period, contrasting with the network’s performance.
According to TradingView charts, ADA’s attempt to stabilize above $0.2600 was unsuccessful. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) revealed a bearish divergence, indicating the lack of momentum behind any upward price movement. Consequently, ADA slipped beneath its moving averages.
“A clear divergence emerged between network usage and market valuation; however, capacity utilization remained at 38% in the subsequent Epoch 661 period.”
