Ripple has announced an innovative partnership with Privy, a subsidiary of Stripe, to develop artificial intelligence-enabled payment applications and embedded wallet solutions on the XRP Ledger. This integration aims to streamline the creation of payment applications that operate with assets like XRP and Ripple USD, alleviating the burden of private key management from end-users.
AI-Driven Payment Infrastructure
The initiative targets agentic commerce, focusing on enabling AI agents to manage funds, conduct transactions, and pay for digital services. This approach aims to establish a more automated ecosystem where software can engage in direct payment interactions, potentially revolutionizing machine-to-machine payments.
Privy is recognized for providing a programmable wallet infrastructure that simplifies the creation and management of wallets on the XRPL. It allows for seamless integration of wallet creation processes into applications, along with the establishment of user approval mechanisms and the embedding of crypto payments directly within apps.
13 Million AI Transactions Processed
A key highlight of this integration is the x402 protocol, designed to facilitate software-to-software payments for digital products such as computing power, API access, and AI model outputs. For instance, an AI agent can independently purchase services like data access, complete the transaction using XRP or RLUSD, and subsequently receive the required data.
RippleX engineering manager J. Ayo Akinyele shared that AI-driven transactions on the XRPL increased from approximately 1 million in July to about 13 million in October.
Ripple reports that nearly 13 million AI agent transactions have been processed on the XRP Ledger to date, representing about 25% of the network’s activity. Despite the volume, these transactions typically consist of smaller crypto transfers common in machine-to-machine exchanges.
New Features for Developers
This partnership is a strategic move in Ripple’s plans to expand in the AI-driven commerce sector. In June, the company introduced an AI Starter Kit designed to help developers build autonomous payment applications utilizing XRP, RLUSD, and x402 protocol.
Ripple has announced that during the ongoing Privy integration, additional features such as transaction policy controls and fee sponsorships will be incorporated into the system.
The new alliance could facilitate the easier adoption of automated payment systems by developers. This strategy seeks to extend the use of the XRP Ledger beyond traditional crypto transfers, fostering its role in machine-to-machine commerce.
