Arbitrum, a Layer-2 solution for Ethereum, has announced its strategic Gaming Catalyst Program (GCP) to fortify the network’s Web3 gaming division. The initiative plans to allocate 200 million ARB tokens, with an estimated value of $426 million, to enhance developer engagement and refine gaming development methodologies. Revealed in a forum post on March 12, this sizable fund aims to invest in select studios and emerging games on the Arbitrum platform. The GCP’s objective is to foster a durable gaming ecosystem and position Arbitrum as the top choice for game creators globally.
Strategic Investments in Gaming Innovation
The program is expected to act as a springboard for quality founders rather than a one-size-fits-all solution. It aspires to evolve into a more encompassing growth strategy for the gaming sector on Arbitrum. Key performance indicators and projections have been outlined as well, setting ambitious targets such as making Arbitrum a leader in Web3 gaming. Among the goals are to attract 200 to 300 builder applications, ensure over 20% of Web3 games adopt Arbitrum as their primary network, initiate 25 new Orbit projects, and see more network transitions to Arbitrum compared to other Layer-2 solutions.
Infrastructure Incentives and Token Unlocking Event
The proposal further details that, upon approval, 40 million ARB tokens will be earmarked for infrastructure rewards to support tools and systems pivotal for gaming in the Arbitrum ecosystem. This announcement coincides with the upcoming release of ARB tokens, which will see nearly 673.5 million tokens valued at about $1.34 billion become available to the team and advisors. This unlocking event is part of a larger release scheduled for March 16, involving roughly 1.1 billion tokens.
