The U.S. market for Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) witnessed its most substantial weekly capital influx of $853.54 million since mid-April. This notable increase, recorded by SoSoValue for the week concluding on August 7, signals renewed investor interest following a protracted phase of aggressive selling that suppressed Bitcoin’s price.

Who’s Leading the Pack?

BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT), a prominent spot Bitcoin ETF, emerged as the leading contributor with a massive $693 million, vastly outperforming its competitors. BlackRock, a global juggernaut in asset management, is noted for its wide array of ETFs spanning various financial markets.

While other U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs also reported positive inflows, their contributions were significantly smaller. The strong demand for BlackRock’s IBIT underscores a shifting trend as institutional investors make their way back to the cryptocurrency scene.

What Drives Market Dynamics?

The answer lies in an unexpected resilience of Bitcoin prices against unfavorable market news, including a notable Coldcard wallet hack and rising U.S. government bond yields. Bitcoin managed to hover around $64,000, reaching approximately $65,100, thanks in part to lessened fears of Federal Reserve rate hikes following a weak U.S. labor report for July.

Although the ETF inflows have surged recently, the overall net outflows for U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs stand at $4.5 billion for the year so far, partly causing Bitcoin’s 33% dip under $60,000 by this June.

  • Week ending August 7, 2024, saw $853.54 million in new inflows.
  • Bitcoin price now ranges between $64,000 and $65,100.
  • For the whole year of 2024, ETFs saw net outflows of $4.5 billion.

Strong and consistent ETF inflows are crucial for Bitcoin’s potential for a significant price rally. During the bull market from April to October 2025, prices shot from $75,000 to a record $126,000, reinforced by weekly ETF inflows exceeding $1 billion.

Upcoming U.S. Consumer Price Index (CPI) data, expected on August 12, could further sway market sentiment and influence forthcoming ETF inflows. A sustained, robust influx of capital is likely to bolster Bitcoin prices amidst shifting macroeconomic scenarios.
