Bitcoin has demonstrated notable gains, exceeding a 20% increase in value over the past week, while U.S.-traded spot Bitcoin ETFs have seen the most substantial weekly capital influx in ten months. This surge has propelled many short-term investors back into profits. Yet, the rising quantity of Bitcoin sent to exchanges suggests a potential intensification of short-term selling pressure.

ETFs Witness Record Breaking Inflows

The vaulting demand for spot ETFs paralleled Bitcoin’s recent price leap. Over the past week, 13 U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs managed to attract net inflows of approximately $1.92 billion, marking the highest weekly entry since last October.

Data shared by Wu Blockchain emphasized that between August 17th and 21st, U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs witnessed about $1.918 billion in net inflows. During this period, spot Ether ETFs also drew $697 million. Consequently, the combined weekly net inflow for both Bitcoin and Ether ETFs approached $2.615 billion.

Spot Solana, XRP, and Hyperliquid ETFs also gained momentum. The influx for Solana reached $28.34 million, XRP pulled in $39.78 million, and Hyperliquid saw net inflows of $3.89 million. The ETF inflows coincided with Bitcoin’s vigorous weekly performance, registering a remarkable surge of roughly 23%.

Are Short-Term Bitcoin Holders Back in Profit?

Yes, the upward movement from $63,000 to $77,000 over the past eight days has led to approximately 22% gains, enabling numerous short-term investors to once again enjoy profits.

Axel Adler Jr., a recognized on-chain analyst, conveyed in his August 24th assessment that the proportion of Bitcoin holdings by short-term investors that are in profit has jumped significantly from 26.1% to 74.9%. This means nearly three-quarters of Bitcoin owned by short-term investors are trading above their purchase price.

Nevertheless, the significant rise in profitability has also coincided with an increase in the Bitcoin transferred to exchanges. The metric monitoring short-term investors shifting Bitcoin to exchanges indicated a significant shift, moving from a deficit of 18,700 BTC and 11,900 BTC on August 16th and 17th, respectively, to a surplus of 28,600 BTC by August 24th.

  • Maintain exchange entries below 25,000 BTC to prevent overheating risk.
  • Keep track of the proportion of profitable short-term Bitcoin supply approaching 90%.
  • Observe Bitcoin price stability and exchange inflow trends.

If they drop to zero, selling pressure may decline, enabling a more stable consolidation period for the market. Despite the weekly fall, XRP led major cryptocurrencies with a 46% rise, nearing $1.50.
