Emerging as a solution to the high transaction fees and network congestion of the Ethereum blockchain, Layer-2 networks have come to the fore. However, the problems in these networks persist. The popular Ethereum Layer-2 network, Arbitrum One, experienced a partial outage on December 15th, according to an alert on its official status website. So, what caused this outage? Let’s examine together.
It was reported that the sequencer stopped during a significant increase in network traffic. According to data from Arbiscan, the Arbitrum ecosystem’s monitoring tool, some blocks were produced. However, during this process, it appears that only two transactions were processed in each block.
Arbitrum users debated whether the outage was caused by minting transactions or another reason. This possibility could explain the low number of transactions seen in each block. However, the team has not confirmed this possibility.
Inscriptions are known as a preferred data format in some blockchain networks and often attract attention as a cultural product that emerges through images. Inscriptions tokens appeared in the Bitcoin ecosystem in January, but thanks to the MemeOrdi protocol, they have recently started to be present in the Arbitrum network as well.
In Arbitrum’s official Discord server, community manager Ricardo Gordon announced that the team is working to resolve the situation as soon as possible and will soon provide a post-incident report.
