Authorities in China have put a stop to the Solana Accelerate event scheduled for Shanghai, citing unauthorized promotional activities as the reason for this intervention. According to a report by the state-backed Financial News released on Friday, the decision was linked to promotional efforts undertaken through local institutions.
Regulatory Concerns
Informed by an unnamed official from a Chinese Central Bank division, Financial News disclosed that Solana advertised on a building located in Shanghai’s Lujiazui financial district and collaborated with local entities to promote its brand. The official indicated that Solana provides technical services supporting cryptocurrency issuance and trading, which are regarded as illegal financial activities under Chinese regulations.
Solana Foundation President Lily Liu stated that organizers postponed the Shanghai event to comply with local requirements, noting that the registration surge quadrupled, surpassing the participation limit previously communicated to authorities.
This incident marks the second disruption of a Solana-related event on the Chinese mainland in two years. It underscores China’s broadening restrictions within the cryptocurrency sector beyond digital asset transactions.
Past Disruptions and Regulatory Landscape
Another Solana event planned in Shenzhen in October 2025 also faced disruptions. The Solana Chinese-speaking community announced via X that the halt stemmed from venue capacity and public safety concerns.
The Chinese Central Bank, along with certain public agencies, issued a notice in February tightening restrictions on crypto-related activities. New prohibitions on the unauthorized issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins were enacted as part of these measures.
The unnamed official alleged that Solana promoted itself through domestic channels and provided technical services supporting cryptocurrency transactions.
The decision in Shanghai highlighted tensions between event organization efforts and the blockchain ecosystem’s visibility to the public. For participants tracking the Chinese market, keeping abreast of local regulatory moves and alterations in event schedules is crucial.
For real-time updates, platforms such as CryptoAppsy offer a consolidated view of coin-specific news feeds and price alerts, enabling closer monitoring of regulatory decisions and event changes affecting Solana.
Solana’s recent statement underscored that the postponement aims to align with local rules. Meanwhile, Chinese authorities concluded that Solana’s promotional activities and technical services conflict with existing financial regulations.
