Dogecoin, historically known for robust October performances in the cryptocurrency realm, has failed to meet expectations once again this year. As the largest meme coin by market capitalization, Dogecoin is poised to close October with significant losses, continuing a downward trend from the previous year.
Second Consecutive Weak October Performance
According to data from CryptoRank, Dogecoin depreciated by 20.1% this October. This marks the second consecutive year of similar losses, as the meme coin experienced a 20% decline during the same period last year. The term “Uptober” is often used to describe October’s traditionally strong performance across major cryptocurrencies, yet Dogecoin’s downturn contrasts sharply with any initial market optimism.
CryptoRank data shows Dogecoin’s 20.1% drop in October mirrors the 20% decline witnessed in the same month last year.
Reversal of Gains from Third Quarter Rally
The sharp downturn in October brought an abrupt end to Dogecoin’s consecutive rise seen in August and September, signaling a swift shift in market sentiment. In the third quarter, spanning July to September, Dogecoin had surged by 31.2%, concluding the period at $0.09447. However, October’s decline to $0.07197 erased much of these gains.
October’s retracement halted the momentum Dogecoin had amassed in August and September, eroding some of the profits gained throughout the third quarter.
Uncertainty Looms for the End of the Year
The losses in October signify a challenging start to the year’s final quarter. Whether Dogecoin can regain momentum in November and December remains uncertain at this point. Despite prevalent expectations based on historical seasonal strength, the past two October records show Dogecoin diverging from the anticipated trend. This situation could prompt investors to adopt a more cautious approach as the year draws toward a close.
