A widespread social media post stirred controversy by alleging that Elon Musk criticized Binance‘s dominant position in the cryptocurrency market. The post suggested that Musk claimed Binance holds an 80% market share and urged users to seek alternatives to foster competition. The supposed remarks quickly gained traction, fueling debate across the crypto community.
Social Media Buzz Sparks Intense Debate
The allegations surfaced shortly after a light-hearted exchange on social media between Binance founder Changpeng Zhao and Elon Musk, leading to rapid dissemination and mixed reactions. Known in the cryptocurrency sector as CZ, Zhao swiftly refuted the claims, clearly stating that the statements attributed to Musk were false and amounted to misinformation.
Changpeng Zhao emphasized that the words attributed to Elon Musk were inaccurate, branding the post as misleading.
CZ Provides Evidence to Dispel Rumors
To underscore his denial, Zhao shared a screenshot from an AI search result showing no record of Musk making any such comments about Binance’s market share. The content also revealed no backing for the claim that Musk encouraged users to transfer funds to rival exchanges, thus challenging the veracity of the circulating text.
Soon after Zhao’s defense, Elon Musk entered the fray, directly dismissing the allegation. Musk clarified that he never made such statements, confirming that the post was fabricated.
Elon Musk confirmed that he did not use any of the expressions in the post, asserting the content was concocted.
With Musk’s categorical refutation, it became apparent that the assessment of Binance’s market dominance was unfounded. Both Zhao and Musk independently confirmed that the circulating information was false. This incident once again highlights the rapid spread of content from high-engagement accounts within the crypto sphere and the issues arising from disseminating unverified statements attributed to prominent figures without source validation.
