Epic Games Reopens Doors to Blockchain Gaming with Policy Change

Blockchain games, a leading innovation in the world of cryptocurrencies, continue to gain significance. Major corporations’ interest in this sector is seen as pivotal for advancement. Epic Games Store, operated by Epic Games, has made policy changes to allow certain blockchain games to be relisted on their platform. Epic Games announced that only adult-oriented games with NFT and blockchain content will be accepted.

Epic Games Store is reopening its doors to blockchain and Web3 games. The platform, known for the popular game Fortnite, has decided to alter its policies to re-accept these types of games, aiming to propel the platform forward.

According to the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB), some blockchain games fall under the “Adults Only” (AO) rating due to the potential to exchange earned cryptocurrencies for real money. The store took action and decided to keep all games rated AO by the ESRB off its platform, effectively banning these types of games.

Despite this, Epic Games recently announced an exception for blockchain and Non-Fungible Token (NFT) games in their policies. However, these games must still comply with existing guidelines, including bans on gambling and hate content.

In a notable development, two previously removed games due to the AO rating, including “Unchained Gods,” will be reinstated on the platform. Immutable, a renowned blockchain game company in the crypto world, is the developer behind “Gods Unchained.” The company views this recent development as an acknowledgment of technology’s importance in the gaming arena and has expressed positive reception to the policy change.

While Steam, potentially the world’s leading PC game and application platform, has maintained a general ban on blockchain and NFT games since 2021, developers continue to find ways to introduce crypto-related games to the market despite the ban.
