Arthur Hayes, co-founder of BitMEX, has made a bold prediction that Ethereum (ETH) could reach $10,000 by the end of the year. Speaking at the Korea Blockchain Week (KBW), Hayes shared his optimistic outlook on Ethereum’s future in an interview with CoinDesk. At the time of the report, Ethereum was trading at approximately $2,672, according to CryptoAppsy.
Contrasting Trends in Ethereum Investment Vehicles
Despite Hayes’s bullish expectation, Ethereum experienced a halt in its previously consistent net inflow to spot Ethereum exchange-traded funds (ETFs), which ended after seven consecutive trading days. Data from Farside Investors indicated a net outflow of $2.8 million recorded on September 29th, revealing a contrasting narrative in the short term.
Investment patterns revealed diverging directions among different funds. Grayscale attracted a net inflow of $12.8 million into its ETH-coded fund, contrasting with BlackRock’s ETHA fund and Fidelity’s FETH fund, which experienced net outflows of $8.9 million and $6.7 million, respectively.
Significant Ethereum Movement on the Blockchain
The net inflow to Grayscale was insufficient to counterbalance the withdrawals from BlackRock and Fidelity, resulting in a net outflow for spot Ethereum ETFs overall. This disparity could indicate growing investor uncertainty in the short term.
In on-chain activities, a noteworthy transaction was observed from Coinbase Prime. As tracked by Arkham, a new cryptocurrency address withdrew approximately 5,731.90 ETH, valued at around $15.31 million. At the time of reporting, these Ethereum tokens were still held in the wallet without any outbound transfers.
“Despite recent market fluctuations, the underlying potential of Ethereum remains compelling,” Arthur Hayes commented on his optimistic long-term forecast, underscoring the volatility inherent in the cryptocurrency space.
The mixed signals from ETF investments and on-chain movements illustrate the complex dynamics facing Ethereum as market participants weigh speculative optimism against immediate market activities. This juxtaposition continues to highlight the inherent volatility within the cryptocurrency sector, impacting investor sentiment and investment strategies alike.
