Clave, a leading Turkish blockchain initiative that has recently caught the attention of Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin, has made a groundbreaking innovation in the Ethereum ecosystem with the proposed EIP-7212. This proposal is expected to elevate to a new dimension as the first Rollup Improvement Proposal (RIP) and will be integrated across various chains.
The Clave team explained that the rationale behind proposing EIP-7212 was to provide secure and cost-effective verification for the secp256r1 (P256) curve. After six months of discussions, the team is close to finalizing the specifications of the EIP, signaling an exciting development for the Ethereum community.
Feedback from Ethereum and Rollup core developers was taken into consideration, leading to a consensus on the EIP’s specifications. The team highlighted that the EIP would be proposed for Rollups, mainly due to its significant impact on Account Abstraction, which is prevalent in Layer 2 (L2) solutions.
Further details were shared about the integration of RIP-7212, which is set to be adopted by different ecosystems following the completion of its final specifications. The team expressed their pride in proposing the EIP as a social benefit and seeing its tangible impact.
Clave’s work on zksync highlights the need for affordable verification for the secp256r1 curve, with precompilation expected to occur in the second quarter of 2024. Additionally, Optimism’s Op Stack chain is anticipated to include this precompilation by default if RIP is accepted after discussion.
Polygon has been actively involved in governance discussions regarding RIP-7212, with plans for RIP integration in the next hard fork for Polygon PoS and zkEVM. Evmosorg is also set to merge the EIP into its main networks, marking another exciting development in the blockchain space.
