Although there are no specific laws for cryptocurrencies in the United States yet, authorities continue to fight crimes such as fraud and hacking within the framework of existing laws.

A security engineer named Shakeeb Ahmed hacked into Nirvana Finance, abusing two different protocols, which marked the first conviction in the US for a smart contract hack incident.

In July 2022, Ahmed stole an amount exceeding 12 million dollars through a hack and converted the stolen cryptocurrencies to Monero, sending them to cryptocurrency mixers.

United States Attorney Damian Williams announced that Ahmed had confessed to his crime and would return all the stolen cryptocurrencies to the victims.

Williams emphasized that no matter how complex the methods used to commit the crime, fraud is still fraud, and they will swiftly catch and convict the criminals.
