Flare Networks CEO Hugo Philion has responded to the recent uncertainty and debate surrounding XRP, advocating for a broader perspective on the cryptocurrency’s future. Philion emphasized that the XRP community should pivot their focus from price performance to expanding its use cases beyond Ripple‘s decisions.
XRP’s Broader Use Cases
In a recent statement via X, Philion noted that XRP holders often evaluate the future of the crypto asset based on Ripple’s actions, a viewpoint he suggests is overly simplistic.
XRP’s value and narrative should never hinge on the actions of a single entity.
Philion argued that the XRP community should focus on how they utilize their holdings, how they can attract new investors to hold XRP, and transform XRP from a speculative asset into usable capital.
Flare is recognized for its efforts to facilitate data access and interoperability across various blockchains. Philion expressed that one of Flare’s objectives is to demonstrate that more can be achieved with XRP. He encouraged XRP holders to explore the Flare ecosystem as a way to decrease their reliance on Ripple, offering an alternative path to leverage their assets.
Falling Prices and Community Concerns
Philion’s remarks coincide with rising dissatisfaction within the XRP community regarding its price performance. XRP has witnessed a significant drop of approximately 50% over the past year, trading at $1.16. This downturn has sparked criticism directed at the leadership and key figures within the ecosystem.
Ripple’s former Chief Technology Officer, David Schwartz, was also recently criticized over XRP’s declining price outlook. Schwartz maintained that his influence over XRP’s price trajectory is minimal.
Controversy Over FLR and FXRP
These discussions are not limited to XRP alone. A controversy erupted when a user on X claimed that XRP holders can operate within Flare’s decentralized finance environment without the need to purchase FLR, questioning the token‘s perceived value. Philion refuted this claim, explaining that FXRP, the tokenized version of XRP on Flare, cannot be used without FLR. He stated that while Flare Smart Accounts simplify user experience by hiding the need to manage FLR, transaction fees on the network still require FLR.
The claim that FXRP can be used without FLR is inaccurate; Smart Accounts merely obscure this necessity for users.
Philion further elaborated that, in the long term, FLR should evolve beyond just being used for transaction fees. He stressed the importance of generating broader fees and developing more extensive use cases within the ecosystem.
