Litecoin’s network, created with its genesis block in 2011, is on the brink of a 15-year milestone of uninterrupted operation. Amid this anniversary, Zach Pandl, the research head at Grayscale, highlighted a marked surge in interest toward Litecoin. He positioned the cryptocurrency as a well-established altcoin maintaining its core value.
Litecoin’s Key Metrics
Continuing to stand out for its low transaction costs in daily payments, Litecoin maintains an average transaction fee of $0.003, a rate significantly lower than that of Bitcoin. The network’s security capacity is underpinned by a hashrate of 2,671.43 TH/s, with the number of active addresses reported at 9.10 million.

Initiated in 2011 by former Google engineer Charlie Lee, Litecoin is renowned for its focus on speed and cost-effectiveness in transactions. The current narrative not only highlights its technical resilience but also the increasing activity among institutional investment products.
Grayscale’s ETF Ambitions
Grayscale operates not as a blockchain developer but as an asset manager overseeing investment products based on digital assets. Its leading product linked to Litecoin, the Grayscale Litecoin Trust, boasts a net asset size of $97,560,938 and 24.25 million shares in circulation.
In September, the firm submitted an updated proposal to regulators to transition the trust into a fully-fledged spot ETF on NYSE Arca. While the SEC’s approval process is ongoing, a smaller-scale fund by Canary Capital has already commenced trading.

Positioning Among Institutional Investors
Grayscale’s product remains a crucial gateway for institutional investors seeking access to Litecoin. Consequently, Litecoin’s 15th anniversary marks more than just a symbolic date; it signifies a deeper integration into traditional market infrastructure.
Thus, Litecoin, despite being an early crypto asset, is transitioning into a mature investment tool readying itself for wider adoption, compliant with regulatory frameworks and poised to tap into broader investor bases.
