Multicoin Capital has recently divested approximately 10% of its HYPE holdings, as reflected in the blockchain data platform Arkham’s latest report. Despite these sales, the company’s stake still amounts to around $90.5 million in value, maintaining HYPE as its largest on-chain asset.
Noteworthy Reduction in Holdings
Earlier this year, Multicoin Capital accumulated about 4 million HYPE tokens in February and March. Presently, the company holds a little more than a quarter of the peak amount acquired. The decision to offload approximately 75% of its peak HYPE holdings emphasizes a significant strategic shift.
Known for its focus on cryptocurrency investments, Multicoin’s substantial interest in HYPE persists despite the recent sales. The timing of these transactions is under close watch by market participants.
Arkham data reveals a notable reduction in Multicoin Capital’s HYPE position, yet it remains their largest on-chain asset.
How Did Investment Decisions Expand?
In July, Multicoin Capital opted to invest directly in the Hyperliquid ecosystem, funneling $1.75 million into Asia-centric perpetual futures platform Trasia Labs, built on Hyperliquid, on July 16.
As the sole participant in the seed funding round, Multicoin Capital’s investment indicates a broader interest in the ecosystem beyond merely holding tokens. This initiative suggests strategic expansion in its investment approach.
Earlier in February, co-founder Kyle Samani stepped back from hands-on roles after a decade, continuing his leadership as the chairman of Forward Industries.
Has Institutional Reach Improved?
HYPE recently got listed on Hashdex’s Nasdaq CME Crypto Index ETF (NCIQ), with a weight of about 3.4%. This positioning makes it the fifth-largest asset after heavyweights like Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, and Solana. Such inclusion marks its first entry into a U.S.-listed crypto index ETF, significantly broadening exposure to American investors.
Including HYPE with a 3.4% weight in Hashdex’s NCIQ fund was a pivotal step in enhancing the token’s institutional visibility in the U.S.
- Multicoin Capital reduced its peak HYPE holdings by 75%.

- HYPE’s inclusion in a U.S. crypto index ETF marks a milestone for institutional exposure.
Grayscale has contributed to the corporate developments by maintaining its Hyperliquid Staking ETF, HYPG. This product underscores Hyperliquid’s growth narrative and the significance of HYPE’s token economy underpinning its broader potential within the staking vertical.
