Polygon’s co-founder Jordi Baylina has announced that by the year 2024, they will complete the Polygon 2.0 inter-chain coordination protocol, an advancement for Ethereum Layer-2 scaling networks. He emphasized that this year has been critical in understanding how zero-knowledge proofs (ZK-proofs) can be scaled and integrated across various networks.
The Polygon ecosystem comprises various networks with their tokens, sequencers, and data accessibility solutions. The transition to Polygon 2.0 will include numerous upgrades that involve the combination of different protocols in a continuous and unlimited manner using ZK-proof technology.
The year 2023 has been significant for Polygon, introducing various products that improve the scaling protocol’s performance and offer developers tools to create decentralized applications (DApps) and interoperable services using zero-knowledge Ethereum Virtual Machine (zkEVM) and other layer integrations.
In 2023, Polygon released the open-source zkEVM mainnet beta version, which reduced transaction costs and increased the efficiency of smart contract deployments. The technology allows for thousands of transactions to be aggregated off-chain and sends only a minimal data summary to the Ethereum network.
Polygon’s Chain Development Kit (CDK) released in September 2023 significantly expanded the ecosystem. Baylina mentioned that this service, which allows developers to launch ZK-supported Layer-2 protocols on Ethereum tailored to project needs, provides on-demand scaling without fragmenting liquidity across all Polygon chains and the broader Ethereum ecosystem.
