Ripple has received final approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish a federally regulated national trust bank. This milestone is seen as crucial for the company to expand its corporate services, setting a new framework especially for its stablecoin RLUSD and digital asset custody operations.
Authorization Details Unveiled
With this approval, Ripple National Trust Bank is authorized to manage RLUSD reserves, act as a collateral trust for stablecoin holders, and provide digital asset custody services to institutional clients. Unlike a commercial bank, it won’t operate by accepting deposits or issuing loans in a traditional sense.
Brad Garlinghouse, CEO of Ripple, emphasized, “This final approval exemplifies how digital assets can be integrated into the existing financial system, showing that the synergy between crypto assets and banks leads to more efficient operations.”
Garlinghouse highlighted that the transformation is occurring within the system rather than outside it. The OCC’s final approval was granted nearly ten months after the provisional approval in December 2024.
The newly regulated entity will bolster Ripple’s regulatory and financial infrastructure. However, the issuer of RLUSD remains unchanged. The stablecoin will continue to be issued through Ripple’s subsidiary, Standard Custody & Trust Company, which is regulated by the New York Department of Financial Services.
Focus on Institutional Services
The main focus of the new institution will be on reserve management and custodial services. Ripple reported that since RLUSD’s launch in December 2024, its market capitalization has reached approximately $2.5 billion, with growing use in institutional payment and transaction infrastructures.
Beyond regulatory headlines, there is an increasing need to monitor price movements and investor behavior. The meme token market can rapidly transform internet trends into multi-million-dollar interests within days. For instance, data from Fomo shows how a $99 initial investment in Niu Lai skyrocketed to about $370,000, underscoring the market’s volatility. Fomo App facilitates token discovery and trading on the same platform, offering insights into price fluctuations and investment activities through social feeds and investor rankings.
Limited Impact on XRP Price
Despite Ripple’s recent regulatory achievement, XRP prices did not experience a significant surge. In early trading on October 27, XRP fluctuated between $1.30 and $1.31, with limited movement over the past 24 hours.
This strategic move by Ripple represents an expansion tied more to RLUSD services and institutional custody operations rather than a direct increase in demand for XRP.
This development precedes Ripple’s upcoming Swell 2026 conference scheduled for October 27-29 in New York, where traditional finance representatives, crypto industry leaders, and participants from the XRP ecosystem are expected to convene.
