David Schwartz, Ripple‘s Chief Technology Officer, has alerted XRPL validators and node operators to a pivotal upgrade on the blockchain. He has stressed the importance of transitioning to version 2.1.0 promptly due to the numerous enhancements it brings to the platform.
Ripple Leads with Major Upgrade Announcement
Following Schwartz’s message, the XRPL team released a detailed blog post outlining the upgrade’s features, including bug fixes, performance improvements, and critical changes like fixNFTokenReserve and fixInnerObjTemplate.
Alongside this, Ripple has begun the voting process for two additional amendments in the XRP Ledger’s governance mechanism. These proposals, which enjoy the support of more than 80% of the network’s trusted validators, are designed to augment the ledger’s overall functionality.
Crucial Upgrade Deadline Approaches
With a March 5 deadline drawing near, Ripple is urging all XRPL server operators to expedite the adoption of the 2.1.0 upgrade to maintain seamless network operations. The exact date of the upgrade’s implementation will depend on the consensus reached through the ledger’s decentralized voting process.
The enhancements are set to introduce distinctive features to the XRPL ecosystem. For instance, the fixNFTokenReserve will add an important control mechanism to the Non-Fungible Token (NFT) acceptance process, while fixInnerObjTemplate will deploy a more flexible internal object templating system named STObject.

The deployment of XRPL 2.1.0 signifies Ripple’s continued commitment to the ledger’s development in 2024, following on from earlier improvements like Web3Auth, XRPL 2.0.0, and Clio v2.0.1. These updates demonstrate Ripple’s dedication to the network’s sustainability and growth, with stakeholders quickly adapting to the changes and actively engaging in governance.
As Ripple progresses technologically, it remains embroiled in a legal tussle with the SEC, which affects the market performance of its cryptocurrency. Despite this, XRP is currently trading at $0.63, having seen a 6% uptick in its value.
