Ripple, the prominent blockchain and cryptocurrency firm headquartered in San Francisco, has broadened the use of its RLUSD stablecoin, transitioning beyond its customary payment applications. Partnering with the nonprofit Hire Heroes USA, Ripple has introduced a grant program aimed at supporting businesses owned by U.S. military veterans and their spouses. This initiative marks a significant step in reflecting Ripple’s commitment to social impact and community development.
What is the Veterans Business Initiative?
The newly launched program has already identified its first 25 grant beneficiaries, each awarded $10,000 to facilitate their business growth. Beneficiaries also gain access to advanced training and comprehensive resources to enhance their business operations. Hire Heroes USA, dedicated to integrating veterans into civilian employment, highlights this initiative’s goal to bolster enterprises owned by veterans and military spouses, while also fostering job creation within the military community.
Jonathan Perri, Ripple’s Director of Social Impact, emphasized, “Veteran and military spouse-owned businesses are pivotal in driving innovation and economic opportunities.”
To be eligible for these grants, companies must be at least 51% veteran or military spouse-owned, operate within the USA, and present a strategy to hire veterans and military spouses within 12 to 18 months.
How is RLUSD Stablecoin Diversifying?
Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin was initially developed as a secure digital asset for financial transactions. Recently, it has been utilized as a funding source for social projects that aim to make a positive impact. This strategic use of RLUSD fits within Ripple’s environmental, social, and governance (ESG) plan.
Ripple’s ESG ventures through RLUSD include over $250 million devoted to global initiatives, engaging with universities, nonprofits, and social enterprises across 80 nations. Their grants support research in blockchain technology, innovation, and fostering sustainable practices.
In 2023, Ripple pledged $25 million in RLUSD to organizations like DonorsChoose and Teach For America, labeling it as a groundbreaking effort in employing stablecoins for philanthropy. Apart from funding educational initiatives, Ripple has collaborations with international nonprofits such as Mercy Corps Ventures and Water.org, reinforcing its mission to use blockchain for social benefits beyond conventional finance.
- Ripple introduces an inclusive grant program for veteran-owned businesses.
- The RLUSD stablecoin extends its role beyond payments to support social causes.
