A recent study by the Aleo Network Foundation highlights a pervasive anxiety over data privacy and security among technology users. The 2024 Data Privacy Report, with insights garnered from 2,217 individuals, indicates that a striking 77% of respondents are greatly or moderately troubled by these issues in their routine activities.
Across Generations: Widespread Worry
Worry over data security is not confined to tech skeptics of older generations but is rather widespread, the study suggests. Baby Boomers showed the highest levels of concern at 85%, followed closely by Generation X at 77%, Millennials at 74%, and Generation Z, who are typically tech-inclined, at 68%. This underscores the omnipresence of data privacy unease across age groups.
As technology users are compelled to share personal information daily, the survey reveals that only a meager 10% feel they have substantial control over their data. The rest of the users perceive their control as minimal at best.
Heightened Scrutiny in the Crypto Realm
According to the report, apprehension amplifies when focusing on cryptocurrency companies. A mere 10% of participants believe that these firms genuinely value data privacy and security. This distrust is especially strong among older demographics, but the concern is present across all age groups.
Aleo Network Foundation’s Chief Marketing Officer Brennen Schlueter emphasizes the significance of the report. Schlueter insists that it is crucial for stakeholders to step up and enhance privacy and security standards to foster broad acceptance of blockchain’s innate benefits and to accurately communicate these advantages.
