Specifically, CryptoPunk #7804, an alien character with rare attributes, commanded this impressive sum on March 20th. The transaction, which involved 4,850 Ethereum, claimed the second-highest price ever paid for a CryptoPunk.

Notable Traits Drive High Demand

CryptoPunk #7804 stands out in the NFT collection, noted for its unique features that include a forward-tilting hat, a pipe, and shades—traits shared with only a few hundred other CryptoPunks. Moreover, as one of the mere nine alien-themed punks, it boasts an exceptional rarity that attracted the high-value bid.

Seller’s Emotional Farewell to NFT

The seller, known as Peruggia, acquired the coveted piece in March 2021 for an equivalent of $7.5 million in Ethereum. In their statement, Peruggia expressed a mix of relief and guilt over their decision to sell, reflecting on the significance of parting with such a treasured digital asset. Despite previously declining an offer of approximately $18 million, the seller eventually let go of the NFT after more than three years.

The sale has been met with enthusiasm from the NFT community, praising the seller for their patience and timing. This sale helped CryptoPunks overshadow other collections in weekly sales volume, with a recorded $21.5 million over the past week.

The buzz surrounding such high-profile sales has galvanized the NFT market, witnessing a surge in transaction volume. Across various blockchain platforms, NFTs have totaled $1.5 billion in sales over the past month, signaling a vibrant and expanding market landscape for digital collectors and investors.
