A proposal suggesting a decrease in the number of validators in the Terra Classic chain has been approved by community decision. This proposal has been criticized by a group of validators and members of the Terra Luna Classic community due to security, centralization, and growth risks. However, the proposal was accepted through a vote in which there were also supporters among the top 100 validators.
Proposal number 11888 suggested reducing the number of validators in Terra Classic from 135 to 100. The aim of the proposal was to decrease the number of validators and eliminate the possibility of malicious actors creating validators and impersonating others.
According to the proposal explanation, there are currently 130 validators in Terra Classic, and the last validator ranked at 113th place has 1.86 million LUNA, which means a Terra Classic validator can be launched with almost no effort.
In the past, a similar proposal was made, and some validators advocated for the removal of inactive validators who did not participate in the process. The proposal received 31.69% “Yes” votes, 22.49% “No” votes, and 46 “Abstain” votes from participants.
The community continues to express concerns that the proposal could harm the chain and increase centralization, going against the goal of decentralization. Additionally, they believe that the proposal would undermine the security of the chain and be detrimental to smaller validators who contribute to the community. It was an interesting development that the largest validator, Allnodes, remained neutral and voted “Abstain”.
