Trump’s New NFT Collection Launches Amid Political Controversy

A new Donald Trump NFT collection is set to launch on the Bitcoin Ordinals protocol, offering buyers a unique Ordinals Inscriptions NFT with each purchase of the Mugshot Edition Trump NFT. The collection, consisting of 200 cards, will be the only Trump collection on the Bitcoin network and can be acquired using wrapped-ETH (wETH) through the CollectTrumpCards website.

Collectors will be able to claim their Ordinals NFTs in the future, provided they have a Web3 wallet. The NFT collection will be available on the Polygon network, as announced in December. Buyers must possess enough wETH to make the purchase, and the terms state that the cards can only be traded on marketplaces from December 2024 onwards.

The release of the Bitcoin Ordinals collection follows allegations against Trump for manipulating the 2020 US elections. In December, Trump announced that anyone purchasing one of the 47 NFTs would receive a piece of the suit he wore in his mugshot and enjoy dinner at his Florida residence.

Despite previously criticizing cryptocurrencies as dangerous, Trump has earned millions from past NFT collections. His opposition to central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) contrasts with the crypto-friendly stance of other presidential candidates, including Robert F. Kennedy.

Many view the Republican campaign before the November 2024 US elections as a positive step for crypto. Bitcoin venture capitalist Peter Thiel is part of the transition committee, but Lisa Graves, Executive Director of the Center for Media and Democracy, warns that a Trump victory could lead to policies favoring Thiel’s financial interests.
