The United States government has relocated a portion of the Bitcoin assets seized from Alameda Research accounts. This transaction was detected by the blockchain analysis firm, Arkham, on August 26. The assets in question were initially seized three years prior, and originated from Alameda accounts on Binance and Binance.US platforms.

Where Was the Bitcoin Sent?

Arkham has not definitively stated whether the transferred Bitcoin indicates a sale. Additionally, the destination of the Bitcoin remains undisclosed, thus leaving the purpose and subsequent steps of the operation unclear.

Ongoing Movement in Crypto Holdings?

Yes, recent movements in the confiscated assets linked to FTX and Alameda suggest ongoing activity in these files. Back in May, Arkham reported that Alameda’s altcoins worth approximately $1.9 million were moved to Coinbase Prime. These included various cryptocurrencies like Render, Uniswap, The Sandbox, Mask Network, and Axie Infinity.

Similarly, in July, wallets linked to the government transferred more than $288 million worth of Bitcoin and Ether, also to Coinbase Prime. The recent transaction seems to follow this established pattern.

  • The US seized over $300 million from three Alameda accounts on Binance and Binance.US.
  • This seizure is part of a larger operation involving over $700 million related to FTX and Alameda.
  • The total seized portfolio included over $102 million in Bitcoin and Wrapped Bitcoin.

Alameda’s assets are part of a broader confiscation initiative launched after the collapse of FTX. The current actions are a continuation of efforts to seize substantial cryptocurrency holdings as part of ongoing legal proceedings.

The US government is conducting a wide-reaching seizure process involving assets over $700 million linked to FTX and Alameda.

Progress in Restitution Efforts

FTX founder Sam Bankman-Fried was eventually sentenced to 25 years in prison, with forfeiture orders exceeding $11 billion. The Department of Justice disclosed that Judge Lewis Kaplan allowed the recovered funds to be used for compensating crime victims.
