Vitalik Buterin, co-founder of Ethereum, has increased his social media presence and recently shared financial advice, which was not well-received by Ethereum investors. He responded to a tweet on January 7th, criticizing it as “terrible advice” and shared his own “true financial advice.”
The original tweet by user ‘alex_avoigt’ highlighted Bill Gates diversifying his portfolio after meeting Warren Buffet, prompting Buterin to caution about diversification and the advice of friends.
Buterin agreed with Buffet, not the user, causing uproar among Ethereum investors. He advocated for diversification but cautioned people to save enough to cover several years of expenses, stating, “Financial security is freedom.”
He advised investors to fill most of their portfolios with “boring” investments, hinting at non-crypto, low-risk options, and recommended not using leverage more than double, criticizing a common method for quick gains.
After Buterin’s comments, the crypto community reacted strongly. ‘CoinMamba’ disagreed with the advice for those not already wealthy, while others questioned Buterin’s ETH sales and criticized Ethereum’s performance, with one trader expressing dissatisfaction with ETH’s recent price behavior.
