XRP Ledger Activity Hits Annual Peak as Token Price Lags

In a striking development for the XRP ecosystem, the number of active accounts on the XRP Ledger soared to 32,604 on October 27, marking its highest level this year. This surge represents a significant rise from the 19,400 average recorded over the past month. Paradoxically, this expansion in user activity has not been mirrored in XRP’s market price, which has charted a downward course during the same period.

Notable Surge in Network Activity

For most of the past year, the daily active accounts on XRP Ledger fluctuated between 13,000 and 20,000. Brief ascensions above 30,000 were occasionally observed but failed to maintain momentum. The recent upswing is notably more pronounced compared to previous spikes and comes on the heels of a stark decline where active accounts plummeted to around 4,000 at the end of August and beginning of September.

As an open-source blockchain network intricately tied to the Ripple ecosystem, XRP Ledger facilitates payments and asset transfers. Recent analytics underscore a marked increase in network activity compared to just a few weeks ago.

XRP Ledger’s active account count reached 32,604 on October 27, attaining the year’s highest level, yet this expansion was not mirrored by the token’s price movement.

Retracement Post-Peak

Data illustrates a moderate retreat following this peak, with the latest count receding to 30,500—a 6.3% drop from the previous 24 hours. The trend suggests a potential sharp decline toward 18,000 active accounts. Despite this, the network usage remains significantly above levels recorded just weeks prior.

However, the historical peak of 106,000 active accounts remains a distant milestone, highlighting the current revival’s limited scope relative to all-time highs.

Price Momentum Remains Subdued

Despite the uptick in network utilization, XRP’s price trajectory has not followed suit. Trading at around $1.29, XRP has continued its descent from the early October heights of approximately $1.50. The token remains below the 50-day moving average near $1.33 and the 100-day average at $1.36. The 200-day moving average is positioned at roughly $1.37.

Short-term market watchers have focused on the $1.25 level, a threshold where buying activity has emerged twice recently. A drop below this point could set a course toward the $1.20 level and further down to the $1.10 to $1.15 range—the area where the August downturn initiated. The trading volume’s persistent weakness alongside the RSI indicator hovering just below 50 signals a lack of strong directional confirmation in the market.

Despite heightened activity on the network, XRP remains below its 50, 100, and 200-day averages, with a persistently weak short-term market outlook.

Discrepancy Between Short-term Price and Long-term Usage

The increase in active account numbers could imply heavier use of the network for payments, trading, or fund transfers. While such data may be viewed positively in a long-term context, it does not guarantee an immediate price uplift. Similar spikes in the past have been attributed to automated processes, distributions, or one-off events and often fade rapidly as witnessed historically.

A price recovery would necessitate XRP breaking past $1.33, then $1.37. Absent this, the buoyancy in network activity remains an encouraging signal, yet the price trend continues to exhibit weakness.
