In a striking development, XRP Ledger has witnessed a dramatic surge in payment volume over the past 24 hours, climbing by an impressive 153.9% to reach 363.3 million XRP, as per data from XRPScan. This sudden uptick comes on the heels of a period of relative inactivity, sparking discussions on whether renewed interest is being kindled in the XRP market.
Price Recovery Efforts Gain Momentum
XRP is currently trading around $1.36, rebounding after touching $1.31 on the daily chart, with buyers showing activity around the $1.34 moving average region. The preservation of this level has resulted in the appearance of a green candlestick, offering a respite after a series of red candles.
XRP Ledger’s 24-hour payment volume hit 363.3 million XRP. However, this figure remains below the 30-day average of 680.4 million XRP.
Despite the apparent resurgence, the context of the increase calls for caution. The 24-hour payment volume of 363.3 million XRP falls well short of the 680.4 million XRP average over the past 30 days. Hence, the 153.9% rise seems more indicative of a rebound from a particularly subdued day rather than the heralding of a new peak.
Volume Increase Lags Behind Historical Highs
XRP Ledger, the open-source platform recording XRP network transactions, has previously experienced significantly higher payment volumes. All-time high records show payment volumes reaching 7 billion XRP. This statistical backdrop highlights that, while positive, the current increase is still far from historical pinnacles.
Examining a year-long perspective, payment volumes have depicted sharp fluctuations. At times heading upwards of 1.5 billion XRP, the volumes later plummeted below 500 million XRP. Peaks of approximately 2.5 billion XRP and 2.7 billion XRP were observed in November and February respectively, with September also recording a more constrained rise of around 1.9 billion XRP.
Observers Monitor Sustainability of Recent Spike
The timing of the latest move is notably crucial. The XRP price recently descended from the $1.65 range in late September to lows around $1.30. The Relative Strength Index (RSI) hovers at 40, a sign of weak momentum, though stopping short of indicating a sharp sell-off. Trading volume on price charts has dwindled during October.
A single day of strong data alone does not signal a sustained directional shift. More consistent improvements require volume to remain above the 30-day average.
In the short term, the market’s focus is likely to be on the $1.38 to $1.40 range. Should XRP achieve a close above this threshold, there’s potential to recover some of the previously lost moving averages. Under such a scenario, the $1.45 and $1.50 levels could once again come into focus.
Conversely, if buyers falter around this region, the $1.31 level could resurface as a critical benchmark. A dip below this line might prompt further scrutiny regarding the robustness of the recent reactive rise. While increased network activity and a rebound off support paint a positive picture, market participants are poised to seek additional evidence for a more lasting recovery.
