The XRP price saw a significant rise exceeding 17%, reaching $1.43 during intra-day trading. This surge unfolded after Ripple showed support for the PermissionDelegationV1_1 modification on its XRP Ledger (XRPL). As an essential segment of the XRPL 3.3.0 update, the alteration requires a majority endorsement from validators before activation can proceed.

Status of the Voting Process

Currently, seven out of the 35 validators on the Unique Node List have voted in favor of the change. A minimum of 29 votes is needed to meet the necessary threshold. The activation of any modification on XRPL demands that support remains above 80% for a continuous period of two weeks. Should the rate of approval fall below this mark, the countdown restarts, allowing validators the flexibility to alter their votes pre-activation.

Ripple’s vote propelled the process forward, yet the determination rests with the supermajority of validators, not a solitary influence from Ripple itself.

What Changes Does It Introduce?

PermissionDelegationV1_1 aims to empower account holders to authorize specific transaction types to another account. However, crucial control during the signature process remains with the account owner. This authority does not extend to other payments or complete account settings, striving for a usage model that is defined and limited to precise account-based functions.

This model resembles the role-based access protocol commonly employed in financial institutions, where narrow access is granted to employees or service providers solely for designated tasks, facilitating function delegation without dispersing additional permissions.

RippleX product leader Jazzi Cooper emphasized the importance of stringent control mechanisms for regulated bodies transiting tokenized value to open ledgers, pointing to token issuance processes as a critical requirement for widespread chain utilization.

Legacy Version Concerns and Other Proposals

The new change adopts the XLS-75 standard, replacing the previous version disabled in 2.6.1 due to a significant flaw. It maintains a limited authority framework to address this bug. Network operators need to run software supporting approved alterations. Legacy nodes might halt when confronting unknown protocol rules.

Ripple has backed changes including the Single Asset Vault and Lending Protocol. Recent data shows the support stands at around 40% for the Single Asset Vault, and above 37% for the Lending Protocol; neither have reached supermajority thresholds.

  • The PermissionDelegationV1_1 has received 7 out of 35 votes, thus remaining below the threshold.
  • The Single Asset Vault proposal garnered almost 40% support.
  • Lending Protocol saw over a 37% approval rate.

Validator approval solely facilitates the activation of features on XRPL; this process does not directly amend the U.S. regulatory framework concerning XRP, RLUSD, securities, or credit products.

Market Performance Captures Attention

Meanwhile, XRP rebounded considerably from a recent low of $1.22, climbing nearly 40% within seven days. Spot trading volume skyrocketed by 156%, influenced by a broad recovery in the cryptocurrency market and closure of short positions.

Thursday witnessed net inflows of $13.24 million into U.S. spot XRP ETFs. Bitwise recorded $9.9 million, and Franklin Templeton noted $3.34 million. Open interest in futures grew beyond 17% in 24 hours, hitting $3.44 billion. Open interest increased over 35% on CME, 15% on Binance, and 29% on Hyperliquid.
