In a pivotal technical development, XRP‘s daily chart has revealed a significant golden crossover. This occurs when the 50-day moving average surpasses the 200-day moving average, currently around the $1.37 level, indicating a potential shift towards a bullish long-term outlook. However, recent price actions advise caution for the short-term period.
Long-Term Signals Clash with Short-Term Price Movements
From May to mid-August, XRP experienced a downward trajectory. During this period, prices fell from over $1.50 to around $1.00, remaining below the descending 200-day moving average. However, a robust surge backed by significant volume in August disrupted this pattern, elevating the price above critical moving averages.
While the 200-day average previously acted as a ceiling for XRP, it has since transformed into a support zone. This trend solidified in September as XRP surpassed its descending trendline, revisited the $1.28 to $1.30 range, and subsequently reached a local high of approximately $1.66.
XRP’s golden crossover suggests a strengthening long-term trend, though recent price structures indicate ongoing short-term downward pressure.
Recent Peaks Suggest Weakening Momentum
According to classical technical analysis, a sustained trend reversal is characterized by higher lows replacing lower lows. Yet, recent candlestick patterns for XRP don’t align entirely with this criterion. After failing to maintain levels above $1.60, XRP formed lower highs at $1.66, $1.63, and $1.58.
Following successive daily declines, XRP drifted back toward the $1.50 vicinity. Notably, trading volume during recent recovery attempts remained weaker compared to August’s strong surge. Furthermore, the Relative Strength Index (RSI) cooled from its overbought levels, standing around 58, indicating potential further decline before approaching oversold territory.
Critical Levels in Focus
As long-term averages turn favorable, short-term momentum appears to falter. Immediate support is near a short-term ascending moving average around $1.44. Below this, the convergence of the 50-day and 200-day averages at the $1.37 area becomes prominent.
A close below this region could diminish the impact of the golden crossover, pushing XRP closer to the $1.30 range. To revive upward momentum, a reclaim of the $1.60 level, followed by a breakthrough of the $1.66 to $1.70 range, is crucial.
Though long-term signals suggest improvement, short-term pressure may persist unless XRP ceases to register lower highs.
While the golden crossover is typically seen as a herald of transition from bearish to bullish trends, it doesn’t alone assure future price trajectories. In this context, a distinct recovery in price structure is essential for short-term directional strength to regain traction.
