The Cardano network is gearing up for the Dijkstra phase, aiming to reach critical development milestones in the coming months. Plans are in place to execute the first distribution in two distinct stages, setting the foundation for a comprehensive update.

Two-Phase Roadmap Strategy

The detailed roadmap aims to integrate the initial phase of Dijkstra into the main network by the end of 2026. This phase will introduce Nested Transactions and Linear Leios in a phased manner. The subsequent implementation of the Peras feature is targeted for the second quarter of 2027 through an in-period hard fork.

Intersect has highlighted advancements in node development, ecosystem preparation, and auxiliary tools as part of the Dijkstra hard fork process. The organization emphasizes the importance of monitoring new node versions and testing environments, expecting them to take center stage in the upcoming months.

Intersect underscores the need for close scrutiny of node development, ecosystem preparation, and sub-tool advancements as the Dijkstra phase approaches.

What Are the New Nodes and Testing Phases?

The forthcoming Haskell-based node versions are set to make early Dijkstra functionalities accessible for testing. Four major node updates are anticipated in the months ahead. The Cardano-node-11.1.1 version is projected to be available by September 7 for main network use, aiming to resolve legacy monitoring issues while addressing Genesis-sourced known bugs.

Scheduled within a month is Cardano-node-11.2, slated to include Dijkstra’s feature set in a testable format. Nevertheless, this iteration will not serve as the conclusive hard fork candidate, and will notably exclude Leios components, as its scope is largely confined to consensus and block production. Yet, evaluation and progress on other Dijkstra features are anticipated to proceed unaffected.

Potential of the Hard Fork Candidate and DijkstraNet

Positioned as the hard fork candidate, the Cardano-node-11.3 release is expected to facilitate the hard fork transition, encompassing all Dijkstra functionalities, including Leios. This step is likely to occur within the next one to two months. The definitive hard fork node release, named Cardano-node-12.0, awaits a still-undetermined release date.

To initiate the testing and development phase for Dijkstra’s feature set, a public DijkstraNet will be established post-node 11.2. On this platform, individuals will have the capability to test components such as Plutus V4, Nested Transactions, and CIP-50. DijkstraNet will parallel MusashiNet in operation, with ongoing evaluation of Leios development.

Public DijkstraNet will be established following node 11.2, providing a testing platform for Plutus V4, Nested Transactions, and CIP-50 components.

Concrete conclusions drawn from this strategic outline include:

  • Two-phase integration aims for a methodical roll-out.
  • Priority on node and ecosystem preparation for seamless update execution.
  • DijkstraNet offers a dedicated environment for feature testing.

Significant events focused on node diversity are scheduled, with workshops planned in Singapore on October 6 and in London on November 13 and 14. Governance proposals related to Dijkstra’s constitutional changes are anticipated to be openly presented. A recalibrated technical delivery roadmap positions the Dijkstra hard fork within a medium confidence window from December 5, 2026, to January 4, 2027, and a higher confidence span from February 24, 2027, to March 26, 2027.
