Canada’s financial markets have made a significant leap concerning XRP-focused investment products by branching out into the U.S. market. This new development comes as the U.S gives the green light for options related to Canada-based XRP exchange-traded funds (ETFs). Consequently, XRP now sits alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana in the realm of regulated derivatives.
A New Pathway to U.S. Opportunities?
The Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation (CDCC) stands at the heart of this initiative. In a filing dated September 9, 2026, the CDCC confirmed that options written on Evolve XRP ETF and Purpose XRP ETF have been registered for sale in the U.S. under Form S 20. As a cornerstone of Canada’s derivatives market, the CDCC provides essential clearing and central counterparty services.
Having traded on the Montreal Exchange since early this year, these products now promise U.S. investors regulated access to XRP price movements without directly holding tokens. This development provides a structured channel for engaging with XRP’s price volatility.
Why Are Canadian Banks Embracing Regulated XRP Products?
Canadian banks are slowly but steadily integrating regulated XRP products into their portfolios. The National Bank of Canada recently disclosed its approximately $330,000 stake in the Bitwise XRP ETF, while the Bank of Montreal revealed investments in XRP products for diversification purposes.
Instead of venturing into direct token holdings or crypto wallets, major banks prefer regulated exchange-traded structures like ETFs.
Although the level of investment remains cautious, the choice of instruments indicates a certain confidence in the established market infrastructure. Banks are opting for positions through regulated, exchange-traded vehicles rather than holding cryptocurrency assets directly.
Continuation of a 2025 Strategy?
The groundwork for today’s progress was laid back in the summer of 2025, when Canada became the first North American country to launch physically-backed spot XRP ETFs on the Toronto Stock Exchange. These funds were tied to the CME CF XRP Dollar Reference Rate, allowing local investors to benefit from tax-efficient accounts like TFSA and RRSP.
Simultaneously, the XRPL Canada-focused developer initiatives under the supervision of the Bank of Canada and adaptations of the Stablecoin Act contributed to a broader ecosystem.
- Canada launched the first spot XRP ETFs in North America in 2025.
- Major banks in Canada invest cautiously in XRP products.
- The Canadian Derivatives Clearing Corporation plays a central role in these operations.
- U.S. institutional access to XRP through Canadian markets broadens.
As the U.S. continues to shape its regulatory framework, Canada has successfully packaged XRP in a familiar product structure and advanced its model across borders. This strategic initiative not only enhances cross-border financial interactions but also exemplifies Canada’s proactive approach in the evolving crypto landscape.
