Bitcoin experienced a tumultuous 24-hour trading period, with its price fluctuating within a $3,000 range. Early Asian trading hours saw the largest cryptocurrency plunge to approximately $81,000, only to recover swiftly and exceed $84,000. As of early Tuesday, Bitcoin was trading around $83,500, signaling a volatile but positive momentum shift.
Altcoins Lag Behind as Bitcoin Recovers
Despite Bitcoin’s resurgence, altcoins did not mirror the leading cryptocurrency’s upward trajectory to the same extent. Zcash (ZEC) saw a sharp decline of around 8%, dipping to approximately $1,210. Similarly, the HYPE token fell by about 6% to $82. Solana (SOL) and Dogecoin (DOGE) each lost 4% in value, and XRP decreased by nearly 3% to settle at $1.36. On a relatively milder note, Ethereum (ETH) and Binance Coin (BNB) experienced losses ranging between 1% and 2%.
Bitcoin briefly rebounded from $81,000 to over $84,000, yet a large portion of altcoins failed to match this advance with similar vigor.
Cautious Sentiment Dominates Market Outlook
The market sentiment indicator, the Fear and Greed Index, has retreated to a level of 57. Although this score remains within the greed territory, it marks the lowest reading since September 18. This scenario points more toward a cooling in risk appetite rather than a significant downturn in prices. While Bitcoin showed signs of recovery, the persistent sell-off pressure in riskier altcoins continued to prevail.
Focus Shifts to Upcoming U.S. Inflation Data
In global markets, investor risk appetite displayed a mixed tone. The Nasdaq 100 futures declined by 0.5%, continuing a trend of sustained selling pressure among chip manufacturers. A relevant exchange-traded fund monitoring chip stocks headed for its sixth consecutive daily decline. Market participants remain hesitant, questioning whether the momentum in artificial intelligence-related spending can withstand ongoing security concerns and financing pressures.
As the U.S. earnings season commenced, JPMorgan’s shares fell by over 2% during early trading hours. In contrast, the European Stoxx 600 index experienced a modest rise of 0.4%, buoyed by declines in bond yields and oil prices.
Thursday’s release of the U.S. inflation data will serve as a critical test for both the cryptocurrency and traditional markets.
Investors are now tuned in to Thursday’s upcoming U.S. inflation report. This data release could significantly influence short-term market directions, impacting both equities and cryptocurrencies based on its implications for interest rate expectations.
