Shanghai Event Postponed Due to Logistics
At the heart of the discussion was Solana’s bid to increase its visibility in Shanghai. A planned event at the Shangri-La Hotel on October 16 was postponed, with organizers citing logistical issues as the cause.
Lily Liu, President of the Solana Foundation, later revealed that registration numbers had quadrupled in a short span, exceeding the number reported to local authorities. This surge presented significant planning challenges.
Lily Liu disclosed that registration numbers had unexpectedly soared to four times the anticipated figure, surpassing reported capacity.
Advertising Removal Raises Further Questions
In related developments, a Solana advertisement displayed on a building in Shanghai was swiftly removed shortly after its appearance. Zhao stated that the advertisement had been taken down within approximately 10 minutes, though he dismissed claims linking the removal to his previous posts.
Zhao clarified that he only became aware of the advertisement 12 to 24 hours after it had gone up, thereby distancing his social media activity from the decision to remove it.
China’s Crypto Landscape Under Scrutiny Again
Initially, Zhao welcomed Solana’s physical presence in Shanghai, suggesting it could pave the way for other blockchain projects and hinting at potential easing of China’s stringent crypto restrictions.
However, the event’s postponement and the prompt removal of the advertisement have rekindled debates about the extent of change in China’s official stance toward the cryptocurrency sector. Amid ongoing deliberations, Zhao reaffirmed that his support transcends any single project, underscoring his commitment to broad-based sector advancement.
