In a noteworthy development in the cryptocurrency world, a Bitcoin wallet that had been inactive for over 15 years was recently reactivated. Data from Galaxy Research reveals that the wallet transferred 20.43 BTC on September 29 via two separate transactions. The transacted Bitcoin is now valued approximately at $1.7 million, according to current market rates.
Historic Large-Scale Transactions Resurface
Galaxy Research provided insights into the cost structure of these transactions, estimating that the first batch of 10.33 BTC had an average acquisition cost of around $4. This leads to a calculated gain of approximately $872,000, reflecting an astronomical return of 2,192,671%. Meanwhile, the remaining 10.10 BTC is estimated to have been acquired at around $3 per coin.
Together, these movements translate to a cumulative gain of $1.724 million. The identities behind the wallet or the recipient remain undisclosed by Galaxy Research, a firm renowned for its in-depth analysis of digital asset markets.

September Sees Resurgence of Historic Bitcoin Wallets
This transaction is part of a larger trend noted over recent weeks, where dormant Bitcoin wallets have been reactivated after long periods of inactivity. Throughout September, numerous wallets that had been silent for periods ranging from four to over sixteen years became active again.
One of the most eye-catching cases took place on September 5, where wallets holding a total of 600 BTC—equivalent to 50 BTC each—were activated after over 16 years. These coins, originally mining rewards from March 2010, were transferred to new, unrecognizable Bitcoin addresses, accumulating a total value of around $48 million.
Blockchain researchers have yet to find evidence linking these ancient coins to Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto.

Early September Sees Unprecedented Wallet Activity
In the first five days of September, previously dormant wallets totaling 626.74 BTC made their first moves in years. Among them were eight wallets from as far back as 2013, each transferring 25 BTC within a span of just 25 seconds.
Between September 6 and September 22, Galaxy Research tracked a movement of 1,971.03 BTC from four other wallets that had been inactive for at least a decade. Another wallet, dormant since March 2011, reawakened, transferring 10.25 BTC.
On September 19, yet another aged wallet from 2011 moved 100 BTC, valued at approximately $8.09 million. Just three days later, a wallet that had been inactive since July 2012 transferred about 600 BTC, worth roughly $51.9 million.
